HOW CAN I PREVENT WATER BACKUP PROBLEMS FROM THE SEWAGE LINE IN THE BASEMENT DURING HEAVY RAIN?
It often happens that during heavy rains, the sewage water causes huge backup nuisance. Especially the basement areas get over flooded due to backflow of sewage water during rainy seasons. If you are also one of those who face drainage water backflow issues, then it’s time to call for a professional plumber to fix the problem.
There can be many reasons for sewage water backup. For instance, if drain water is coming into your property from the outside sewer lines or the septic systems in the city, then you would need to install a backwater valve in the plumbing line of your house. The flapper present in the backwater valves prevents water from flowing back into the pipes. It will allow unidirectional water flow out of your house and closes when the same tries to flow back in the reverse direction.
And, if the main cause for the sewage water backflow problem is heavy rain, then you might need to make your foundation waterproof. It can be done by installing a sump basin and drain tile at the region of the foundation which will first collect the rain water. Later, the collected drain water will be pumped out to some low level area so that it flow away from your house. Another way of dealing with this issue is raising the landscape near the foundation. This will let the water flow away from your property instead of entering into the basement of your house. Some people also use rain gutters to collect rain water and later direct it towards low level area in the backyard.
